The UNODC delegation led by the Regional Representative Ms. Ashita Mittal, on October 16,2024 paid a courtesy call to the Hon. Attorney General and the Hon. Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Chambers. Ms. Ashita congratulated the Hon. Attorney General on her appointment and thanked her for the continued partnership between the two offices. The two Offices held discussions on areas of collaboration in particular, on access to justice, support on institutional capacity building, legislative reforms and Anti-corruption strategies.
The Hon. Attorney General briefed the UNODC on the strategic agenda and vision of the Office, and the key aspects essential for transforming the Office into a people-centric entity central to the administration of justice. The key aspects discussed are comprehensive programs focused on capacity building, justice sector reforms, and legal education. The programs aim to offer a structured framework in line with UNODC’s objectives in strengthening the justice systems, promoting access to justice and human rights, and enhancing institutional capacity.
The UNODC expressed its commitment to continue supporting the Office of the Attorney General in implementing its strategic programs in access to justice, human rights, legislative reforms and enhancing institutional capacity. The UNODC also urged the consideration of further avenues for support and collaboration that can be pursued between the Office of the Attorney General and the UNODC.
