The Hon. Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, today,2nd December 2024 paid a courtesy call to the Permanent Representative of Kenya to the Permanent Mission of Kenya to the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, H.E. Amb. Fancy Too.
The Hon. AG is leading the Kenya’s delegation attending the review of the 8th & 9th Periodic Report on the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD). Kenya’s review is scheduled to take place on 4th & 5th December 2024 during the 114th Ordinary Session of the UN Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Kenya ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination ( ICERD) in September 2001. It is a key human rights instrument adopted in 1965 to eradicate racial discrimination worldwide. It defines racial discrimination as encompassing any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, color, descent, or national or ethnic origin that undermines human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The upcoming review will focus on the 8th & 9th Periodic State Report. Emphasis will be on measures taken by the Government to address access to justice, property rights of indigenous people, community land rights, historical land injustices & refugee rights.
